Kuy Chanthorn, one of villagers, came to hand in their petition in Phnom Penh

On 15 June 2015, over 50 village residents from Kandal’s Ponhea Leu district marched to the National Assembly and the Office of Prime Minister Hun Sen to hand in their petition , seeking intervention in their land dispute with SKD.

Kuy Chanthorn, one of village residents gathered in front of the National Assembly, said five village residents were allowed to meet the opposition member of parliament Chan Cheng in the compound of the National Assembly before they moved on to the Office of Prime Minister Hun Sen in front of Botum pagoda in order to submit their petition.

Talking on the phone after their meeting, Kuy Chanthorn said that the opposition member had told village residents to wait until Eng Chai Eang returned from his trip abroad.

The village residents’ representative also mentioned that an official from the Office of the Prime Minister Hun Sen had already received their petition.

The petition declared that 71 families from villages of Kakab, Prasat, Slaeng Meanchey, Svay of Chhviang commune, and Slaeng of Chrailors commune, Kandal’s Ponhea Leu district, have sought assistance and intervention in their land dispute, involving  155 hectares, with SDK company owned by Lem Kea.

The land dispute happened in 2006 when bulldozers from SKD were sent into the disputed land area.////
