Overall Project Objectives:
(1) To ensure that that justice is served for Cambodian victims of human rights violations during the Khmer Rouge regime through an informed and proper administration of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Cambodian Court (ECCC) according to international standards;
(2) To ensure that the principles of the Rome Statute, establishing the International Criminal Court (ICC), are adopted into Cambodian law so that a legal framework is established to ensure that international war crimes and crimes against humanity can be prevented in Cambodia in the future.
Specific Project Objectives:
(1) To ensure that the population in Cambodia is well informed about all aspects of the ECCC.
(2) To ensure that witnesses and victims of the Khmer Rouge regime are empowered, and fully supported to participate and contribute during the proceedings of the ECCC. To ensure that gender and minority group awareness is exercised by the ECCC.
(3) To ensure that the witnesses and victims are provide with all necessary protective measures.
(4) To provide support for the International Criminal Court by promoting the understanding and use of principles enshrined in the Rome Statute; make recommendations and lobby to implement the Rome Statute obligations into Cambodian legislation.
