Some 100 villagers from Chey Udom commune in Lumphat district protested in front of the Ratanakiri Provincial Court on 21 July 2015, demanding the court to release Sai Ret (age 45), who was arrested on 20 July 21, 2015 on the basis of having been responsible for a violent attack that occurred three years ago.
Mr. Chhay Thi, a coordinator for local human rights group ADHOC in Ratanakiri, commented that Mr Sai Ret was not at scene when the violence broke out during a wedding party in 2012.
The villagers, who are involced in a controversial land dispute with Vietnamese-owned Hoang Anh Lumphat Co., Ltd said they would keep protesting until Mr Sai Ret was released.
