On July 29th 2015 at 6:15 pm, Mrs. Ong Lorn, 38 years old, was killed by her intoxicated husband, Mr. Vong Keang, 44 years old, at Sre Romchong village, Sondann commune, Sondann district, Kompongthom province, in an act of jealousy.
It has been established that Mr. Vong Keang became intoxicated and violent very often, whilst his wife was trying to take care of the family by working in the rice-field, farming and taking care of the work around their house. On July 29th 2015, in a state of intoxication and jealousy, Mr. Vong Kean started to use violence against his wife and cut her head, neck and right-arm with a knife (Khvev). Due to the severity of her injuries, she died immediately. Mr. Vong Keang was arrested and is currently waiting for the prosecutor’s investigation. ADHOC will follow up in this case as it progresses to the court.
Domestic violence is a serious human rights violation and remains to occur throughout Cambodia. ADHOC is active in relation to the prevention of gender-based violence and provides legal, social and medical assistance to the victims and their families.
