Cambodian civil society leaders discussed on State and Government

Phnom Penh, 6^th April 2011 : the State and Government is the topic of ADHOCs Radio Program on 6^th April 2011 broadcasted from 7:30.am to 8:30.am, Radio FM 105, FM 90 in Phnom Penh and FM 90.25 in Battambang province. In the program different civil society leaders including Mr. THUN Saray – ADHOC President, Dr. LAO Mong Hay – former Executive Director KID, and Mr. SOK Samoeun – CDP Executive Director of CDP, and moderated by Mr. LATT Ky, ADHOC – KRT Program Coordinator participated in the discussion.

It was observed that knowledge about this topic is very important because the Royal Government of Cambodia has the autonomy to be responsible for reparation of victims of the Khmer Rouge regime, which is similar regarding the dept politics. If the previous government loaned from another country, the next government is responsible in paying back as well. This is similar in the matters of reparation for victims whose have suffered of serious crimes committed by the previous Government; therefore the new one has an obligation to compensate the victims who suffered harm, i.e. the Genocide committed by the German government under Hitler to Jewish people was recognized the Republic of Germany tried to compensate the Jewish people and the Country of Israel with more than 60,000 millions dollars. Therefore, the Royal of Government has to response to the crimes which have occurred under the Khmer rouge regime, so they have to be responsible for granting reparations to the victims of the Khmer Rouge regimes.

Finally, the civil society leaders provide the recommendation forward to the ECCC judges to engage the Royal Government in to the reparation topic and inside the court verdict. Thus, the Government and donor’s shall contribute to reparation for victims of the KR regime.
