Between 17th-22th November 2014 Mr. Robert Porter and Mr. Syarif Abadi, experts from Tilburg University’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies of Civil Law and Conflict Resolution (TISCO), based in the Netherlands, visited ADHOC. TISCO is providing technical support for the development of ADHOC’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program. In this light the experts interviewed ADR communities, local authorities, and beneficiaries at Kratie and Kompong Cham who requested ADHOC’s ADR services in the past.
ADHOC’s ADR program is currently in its second year of implementation. Financial support is provided by the European Union. The program aims to provide out-of-court Access to Justice and stems from the realization that courts in Cambodia are notoriously slow, expensive, far removed and often sway verdicts in favor of the rich and powerful. ADHOC so far provided ADR training in 9 provinces, including Kompot, Kompong Speu, Kompong Chhang, Battanbong, Bantey Meanchey, Kompong Thom, Kompong Cham, Kratie and Kandal.
The research results gathered by the experts from TISCO will be used to develop ADHOC’s long-term strategy plan for the following years.
