51 indigenous families in Pichr Chenda district in Mondulkiri province denied to be relocated to a new village, as proposed by the local authority in a bid to end the land dispute with VARANASY Co., Ltd.
According to Mr. Sok Ratha, coordinator at the provincial office of human rights ADHOC in Mondulkiri province, Mr. Yim Lux, deputy governor of Mondulkiri, declared, during a public forum on 9 July 2015 attended by the 51 families, that the resolution of the dispute with VARANASY Co., Ltd over the concerned 350 hectares of land would require the relocation of all families.
The human rights worker reported that the villagers opposed the proposed resolution and instead demanded that the rubber trees on their land be uprooted, if their reasonable compensation demands were not met.
According to a report issued by ADHOC, the land dispute between the local villagers and the French-owned company took place in 2010 without resolution to these day.
