On 26 April 2024, the Supreme Court tried Ms. Chhim Sithar, representative of the Labor Rights Supported Union of Khmer Employees of Naga World (LRSU). On 25 May 2023, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Ms. Chhim Sithar to two-year imprisonment and Chhim Sokhorn, Son Sreypich, Hai Sopheap, Khliang Soben, and Touch Serei Meas received an 18-month prison sentence but were placed under judicial supervision. The court also convicted Ry Sovandy to a one-year suspended sentence. They were all charged with incitement to cause social unrest, under article 494 and 495 of the Cambodian Criminal Code, for participating in peaceful strikes motivated by the desire to solve their labor dispute with NagaWorld. On 19 October 2023, the Appeal Court upheld the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s verdict. This morning, around 40 NagaWorld strikers gathered in front of the Supreme Court to support and encourage Chhim Sithar who is in detention. Around 25 police officers were deployed to observe and take photos of the strikers. The Supreme Court will announce its verdict on 03 May 2024 at 8:30am.
