Workshop on Land and Natural Resource Rights in Battambang

On 24 March 2011 ADHOC hold a workshop on land and natural resource rights in Raksmey Samaky hotel of Battambang town. This workshop was participated by 60 land victims (11 female), by local authority such as village chie, commune council, district governor, provincial authority, relevant department officers and national, international organization’s representatives. The workshop was under presidency of Mr. Thun Saray, ADHOC’s president and H.E Sieng Suthorng, deputy provincial governor in charge of land dispute resolution.

ECCC Legacy can be positively transferred to the National Courts

The LEGACY Workshop began with opening remarks from Mr. Thun Saray, who emphasized the importance of the ECCC in acting as a model for the judiciary, and a catalyst for ongoing efforts to promote legal and judicial reform in Cambodia. He noted the importance of all key actors working together ‘in order to enable fruitful discussions and dialogues on legacy issues’ and to ensure that the many ‘lessons learned from the ECCC can be positively transferred to the national courts’.

ADHOC coordinator in Kompong Chhnang sentenced

We are deeply disappointed today to hear that our colleague Mr. Sam Chankea, ADHOC coordinator in Kampong Chhnang province, has been sentenced this morning by Kompong Chhnang Court which decided unfairly to fine him 1 million riels. He has also been sentenced to pay 3 million riels to KDC International, a company owned by Lauk Chumteav (Her Excellency)Chea Kheng – wife of Minister of Mine and Energy.

Human Rights Defender faces accusation by Kompong Chhnang Provincial Court

The Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC) disagrees with Court’s decision to accuse Mr. Sam Chankea and charge Mr. Reach Seymar – a citizen from Lor Peang village – of Defamation, as stated in Article 63 of UNTAC Penal Code and Article 305 of the new Penal Code. ADHOC considers the court’s decision as unfair and unacceptable.
