 “Villagers Threaten to Forcibly Resist Eviction”

More than 300 villagers resisted to be forcibly evicted by the Try Pheap Company in Preah Vihear Province.   According to the village 1000 hectare is being seized for the rubber plantation by the company.

“Boeung Kak villagers closer to land titles”
City hall officials had begun measuring land in the Boeung Kak community yesterday .  City hall spokesman Long Dinmanche said “…after measuring the land and the sizes of their houses, 32 familyies will receive legal land titles.”

“Illegal logging ‘rampant’ in sanctuary”

Three tractors travelling out of Kampong Speu were caught by the provincial military police.  According to the director of Natural Resource and Wildlife Preservation Organization  (NRWPO) reported that these accused men were illegally transporting timber woods our of the protected area.

“NGOs threaten to sue over Don Sahong Dam”

“Environmentalists and NGOs are threatening to sue developers of a controversial hydropower dam, claiming the project would cause irreversible damage to the Mekong River.” According to the executive director of Cambodian Volunteers for Society and the program manager of Fisheries Action Coalition Team, more than 60 million people who lives along the river will be negatively impacted from the food security and economic livelihood for generation. 

The Don Sahong Dam project will be taking place  less than two kilometers north of Cambodian-Lao border.

 “Coca-Cola to Investigate Sugar Sourced From Cambodia”

Coca-Cola, the soft drink giant, said that they will not tolerate the land grabs and will not “source any sugar produced by companies that refuse to comply with human rights standards.” They gave examples from “…several sugar plantations in Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province where hundreds of families have been displaced due to economic land concessions granted by the government for sugar cane plantations.”

 “Wildlife sanctuary ‘illegally logged’”

Piles of luxury woods, Thnong and Neang Nuon wood, were discovered in Ratanakkiri province.  These wood allegedly “fell inside the Lumphat Wildlife Sanctuary-stockpiled in ware house of  economic land title holders.” The Rights group, ADHOC, and the local villagers accused Agrico Co, Ltd and Hoang Anh Lumphat repeatedly being accused of illegal logging in the area.  “Adhoc says it will continue to investigate the case.”

“Boeng Kak Activists Call for Supreme Court to Free Yorm Bopha”
Boeng Kak commune activists marched around the Supreme Court in ‘Phnom Penh yesterday calling for the release of Yorm Bopha who will have the final appeal hearing on Friday.  The commune  activists claim that ”Phnom Penh Municipal court’s warrant is unjust because the procedure was wrong.” Other international organizations such as Amnesty International also released statement which stated, Yorm Bopha “…must be freed immediately and unconditionally.”

“Report calls out Pheap”: Tycoon blamed for 1,445 evictions

Try Pheap, one of the largest logging tycoon in Cambodia, was criticized in The Cambodian Human Rights Task Force (CHRTF)’s recently released report for displacing families and encroaching on protected forest areas and helping to facilitate a cross-border illegal logging operation…According to the report, at least 1,445 families have been evicted from their homes during Pheap’s acquisition of about 68,088 hectares since 2010.”

“Try Pheap Given Exclusive Rights to Seized Wood”

According to the Forestry Administration , Try PHeap Import Export have paid $3.4 million for the exclusive rights to collect nearly 5000 cubic meters of confiscated  luxury timber. “Felling illegal: villagers”

Daun Penh Agrico company alleged for illegal logging in Lumphat Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday.  Villagers witnessed the forest being disturbed by  19 men with felling trees.  Adhoc provincial representative said “ the company responsible was likely to be daun penh agrico which was granted an 8,825-hectare economic land concession in the sanctuary in 2011.”
