On 28 September 2015, 9 year old Ch.R. was raped by a 75 year old suspect Mr. Bann Puth at Chrorb village, Kbal Romeas commune, Sesan district, Stoeng Treng province, where both the victim and suspect reside. The victim’s family submitted a complaint to the district police; however, the police had not taken any action until ADHOC’s intervention with the provincial police. ADHOC was approached by the victim’s family on 5th October 2015 and accompanied the victim to the provincial hospital for a medical examination. The 75 year old suspect was arrested by the police for questioning at the provincial court.
Gender-based violence in general and rape in particular are serious human rights violations. ADHOC focuses on the prevention of such egregious human rights violations by ending impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators. ADHOC will follow up on the developments in this case to ensure justice is being served.
